What are the Green Genome Awards?

The inaugural Green Genome Awards, presented October 2012 at the Community College & Industry Partnerships Summit in Wisconsin, honor exemplary community colleges nationwide that have taken a strategic leadership role in sustainability and green economic and workforce development.

Which colleges won the awards, and why?

The winning colleges recognized for their achievements within the four categories include:

• Butte College, Oroville, California (Governance)
• Central Carolina Community College, Sanford, North Carolina (Program Design & Delivery)
• Delta College, University Center, Michigan (Community Engagement)
• Hillsborough Community College, Tampa, Florida (Overall)
• West Virginia University at Parkersburg (Strategic Partnerships)

Inaugural Green Genome Award Winners with AACC and Snap-on representatives

What do winners receive?

Each winner will receive $8,000 in cash, plus a set of state-of-the-art Bahco brand Snap-on tools and horticulture equipment. The funds from the award may be used to support the college’s enhancement, expansion, or creation of a practice or program related to green workforce development and sustainability.

Accompanying the awards is the release of a report entitled, The Community College Green Genome Framework: Integrating Sustainability and Clean Technology Workforce Development Into an Institution’s DNA. This tool for colleges details the new Green Genome framework, paths for success, and offers profiles of the winning colleges.
